The Benasque Valley is home to the Posets-Maladeta nature reserve. Here untouched forests of oak, beech and birch mix with waterfalls, sheer valleys, high mountain lakes, the last living glaciers of the Iberian Peninsular and more than 60 summits of over 3,000 metres of altitude.
This is the land of brown bears, wild cats, marmots and foxes, as well as capercaillies, golden eagles and lammergeyer.
It is the perfect place to see nature close at hand, to relax or try a new adventure sport in the great outdoors.
The villages of the Benasque Valley, once part of the old county of La Ribagorza, still preserve many of the centuries-old customs and crafts which have been passed down through the generations. The sober stone and wood buildings and the Romanesque chapels, which make up the villages, are typical of the region.
Gastronomy is strong and the combination of tradition, good taste, natural ingredients and careful presentation have created dishes which meet with approval from even the most discerning palates. Specialities include varied fungi, game dishes and wild fruits.
